Potsdam is a city approx. 25 min by public transport away from Berlin. It was selected in 2017 as one of the 12 digital hubs in Germany. It’s a cluster of world-leading companies in innovation such as the SAP Innovation Centre NetworkOracle, and the Volkswagen Group Future Centre Europe (with designers, experience experts, software developers, and IT professionals working on tomorrow’s mobility).
Our focus on technology, data, and design is reflected in the modern design of our campus’ building and its interior. Our students benefit from geographical proximity to international brands and an atmosphere that promotes creative potential and ideas. Our modern building not only offers enough physical space to develop but also enough mental space to create ideas and concepts. The exchange with fellow students from different fields and countries is important for this. Internationality is a top priority at the Innovation Hub, which is why all our study programmes are fully taught in English.

FAQs

Yes. Germany ranks in the Top 20 globally for Peace and Safety (Positive Peace Index, 2025), and Potsdam's smaller city feel makes it one of the more relaxed places to build your student life. With over 40 research institutions and more than 10,000 academics calling the city home, you'll be part of a welcoming, internationally minded community. Berlin is just 30 minutes away when you want the buzz of a bigger city.

Potsdam has the highest density of academics per capita in Germany, with over 12,500 people working, researching, or studying at the Potsdam Science Park. The local economy is built around future-facing sectors: media, life sciences, IT and creative industries. Add a UNESCO World Heritage historic centre, more than 20 lakes and living costs lower than most major European capitals, and Potsdam makes a strong case for itself.

Potsdam gives you the focus of a smaller city and the opportunities of a major region. Berlin is 30 minutes away, putting you within reach of a startup ecosystem that launches over 500 new companies a year. On campus, the UE Innovation Hub connects you to industry partners and live projects from day one. Germany's 18-month post-study work visa and 91.9% graduate employment rate within three years (OECD, 2024) make it a strong long-term bet too.

Tuition fees vary by programme, so check the UE website or speak with an admissions advisor for accurate figures. What's consistent is that Germany is one of the more affordable study destinations in Western Europe, and Potsdam's living costs sit below those of most comparable European cities. You get a strong academic experience without the price tag of a major capital.

No. All programmes at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences are taught fully in English. Day-to-day life in Potsdam is increasingly English-friendly too, particularly in academic and professional settings. If you'd like to pick up German along the way, the German government has invested significantly in language support for international students, so help is always available.

Potsdam is more affordable than Berlin and significantly cheaper than cities like London or Paris. Your typical monthly costs cover accommodation, groceries, transport and everyday expenses. The Berlin-Brandenburg network connects you directly to the capital, so you can tap into Berlin's opportunities and social scene without paying Berlin prices to live there.

Costs vary depending on whether you choose university halls, a private student residence or a shared apartment (WG). As a guide, Potsdam is more affordable than Berlin for renters, and Berlin is already 20.6% less expensive than London. For current pricing, check with the university's accommodation team or browse listings on platforms such as WG-Gesucht.

Yes. You can work up to 120 full days or 240 half-days per year while studying. After graduation, Germany's 18-month post-study residence permit allows full-time employment, with further pathways including the EU Blue Card and long-term residency after 21 to 24 months. With a national graduate employment rate of 91.9% within three years of graduation (OECD, 2024), Germany is one of the stronger places to turn your degree into a career.

The UE Innovation Hub is at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences Potsdam campus. It's where academic learning meets real industry practice, connecting students to startup ecosystems, entrepreneurial projects and company collaborations across tech, business, and creative sectors.
