Design Leadership, MA*
To set something in motion and shape it, you need responsible personalities who not only master tools, but also have an overview of contexts and find creative solutions for complex topics and challenges: We call it Design Thinking. You will work in teams to coordinate processes and develop innovative services and products. We rely entirely on your visual imagination and formulation skills and your feeling for the way communication succeeds.
Your focus will be on digital transformation. You will improve your ability to analyse and design digital workflows, platforms and technologies.
The aim is to enhance both the efficiency of businesses and business ideas, as well as to enhance interaction for individual customers and users. Moreover, it's about becoming a part of a positive, global change process. Only through user experience (UE) will you find the lived interfaces between design and management - thus ensuring yourself a future-proof career.

Design Leadership at a glance
The Master’s programme Design Leadership aims to develop advanced competencies and expertise in the field of visual communication, design and digital business. It is aimed at students who want to expand their knowledge and skills to lead complex design processes, develop innovative solutions and make strategic decisions in organisational contexts.
The target audience comprises young people who are adept at grasping ideas, understanding how things work, and effectively communicating them. They also excel at recognising visual elements and may have experimented with design, worked with digital media, or collaborated in teams.
Career options with a degree in Design Leadership
Graduates work in a dynamically developing environment that demands the competences acquired during their studies, often without a firmly defined job description. They work in positions of responsibility in the classic communication and creative industries, where they devote themselves in particular to strategic and operational tasks, they work in the companies themselves in interdisciplinary development teams or in corporate communication, they prepare themselves for independent work as freelancers or set up their own companies. They work – outside of the classic design professions – in interdisciplinary teams and lead them to support companies, organisations and institutions in the analysis, conception and implementation of strategic communication. For example as:
- Design strategist
- Design manager
- Design operations manager
- Innovation designer
- Design strategist user experience
- Chief digital officer
- Digital transformation officer
