Curriculum Bachelor Film & Motion Design

Film & Motion Design at a glance

The Bachelor's degree programme Film & Motion Design is divided into various modules. In the foundational modules, we’ll first teach you the basic principles and techniques of artistic crafts, such as animation, storytelling, cinematography, sound design, 3D design, editing, post-production and digital composition. After you’ve learned these, you’ll be able to develop your own specialisations in elective modules. You will create music videos, documentaries, animation films and experimental short films. You will also design motion graphics, animated logos, explainer videos or spatial multimedia installations.

The theoretical element will cover important historical and contemporary developments in art, film, photography and design. In the 5th semester, you’ll have the opportunity to test out your newly-gained design skills in practice through an internship or a semester abroad.

The interdisciplinary and international concept of the university and the future- and job-oriented Bachelor's in Film & Motion Design prepares you for the first step into the media industry, where both design skills and a growing network count. In the course of your studies, a comprehensive and versatile portfolio is created, which includes projects with cooperation partners from culture, research and business. Our teachers are your mentors because your success is our goal!

The Film & Motion Design programme offers hands-on education for future creative professionals in the field of time-based media. This contemporary and versatile study programme offers an exciting variety of artistic expression and can create excellent career prospects in the rapidly growing creative industry.

Through a well-balanced mix of compulsory and optional subjects, we ensure that you get to know all the necessary basics in your field of study, while at the same time enabling you to develop individually according to your personal interests and preferences. In the second year of your studies, you have the possibility to choose from a wide range of interdisciplinary offers and project modules from our other design programmes that complement your field of study.

With a focus on time-based design, the Film & Motion Design programme prepares you for a variety of current and future professions in the fields of animation, film, design, scenography and media art. Your job opportunities are as varied as the media landscape itself.

After graduation, you will be expected to have a wide range of interdisciplinary skills as a motion designer, digital designer or film designer. You will be employed or freelance for agencies, television stations, film or game productions, in the entertainment industry, the liberal arts, advertising or knowledge transfer, in the media production of museums, trade fairs, theatres and event stages.
