Sylvia Rybak

Photographer

Sylvia Rybak studied Photography in Berlin. “I was looking for a university that would teach me all of the skills to become a professional in my field. I also did not want to limit my education to purely the field of photography, hence I was intrigued by the fact that I could also choose electives from different programmes offered by the school (eg. communication design).”

You were in your practical semester at the time of the interview. Tell us about your tasks and responsibilities in the company. Why did you choose the company?
“I worked in a foundation that supports artists in sales and creates connections between galleries and clients. They do this by organising big vernissages all over Europe where artists can present their works for free and are in direct contact with prospective buyers who purchase the works. I had chosen this foundation because I remembered one of the vernissages I attended a few years ago. At that time, the vernissage impressed me very much because of the diversity and quality. That is why I decided to contact the foundation. My responsibilities included cataloguing the artistic works, managing the website, photo documentation and displaying the works. I worked closely with the curator and learnt how the art industry works, which was very helpful for me.”
