DevOps, MSc

The consecutive Master‘s study programme DevOps (M.Sc.) is application-oriented and provides
students an extensive knowledge in the fields of Developments and Operations. DevOps is an interdisciplinary field that combines software development, operations, and automation. Students will gain a deep understanding of DevOps principles and best practices. Throughout their studies, they
get an insight in areas such as continuous integration, continuous delivery, automation, and collaboration between development and operations teams. In order to develop the necessary expertise in the DevOps field, students will acquire an extensive methodological knowledge by learning tools
and techniques for automating software development, testing, and deployment processes. Furthermore, students will work with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker and Kubernetes). You will learn how to deploy and manage applications in cloud
environments and how to leverage containers for efficient software deployment and scaling, as
these competences are highly valuable in the DevOps field.

Dual Degree Programme in BSc Business Informatics & Data Science

Spotlight Module "Entrepreneurial Thinking & Digital Models"

In the Entrepreneurial Thinking & Digital Models module, students develop a strong foundation in how innovation and business strategy come together in the digital economy. They explore how successful digital businesses are created, starting with understanding customer needs and defining clear value propositions, and then moving on to how these ideas are translated into scalable and sustainable business models. Using practical tools such as the Business Model Canvas and real-world case studies, students learn how to analyse existing companies, identify opportunities for digital transformation, and design their own innovative concepts. The module also encourages students to reflect on their own thinking patterns and entrepreneurial mindset, helping them understand how creativity, adaptability, and strategic decision-making play a key role in driving innovation across industries.

Career Opportunities after an M.Sc. in DevOps

Graduates of the DevOps (M.Sc.) programme are highly sought after in today’s tech-driven job market, where companies rely on fast, secure, and scalable software delivery. Typical career paths include roles such as DevOps Engineer, Cloud Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), or Platform Engineer, where you design and manage automated systems and cloud infrastructure.
You may also work as a Software Engineer with DevOps focus, Automation Engineer, or CI/CD Specialist, building and optimizing deployment pipelines and ensuring system reliability. With additional experience, leadership roles such as Technical Lead, Product Owner, or IT Project Manager are also within reach.
Thanks to the combination of technical expertise, cloud knowledge, and business understanding, graduates can work across industries including tech, finance, e-commerce, consulting, and start-ups, or even launch their own digital ventures.

During the course of your studies, you will learn, among other things, how to… The Master’s in DevOps is taught entirely in English at UE to prepare you for a career in international companies after graduation. You can complete the Master’s in 2, 3 or 4 semesters – thanks to our Master’s reform, the programme can be designed flexibly.

In this DevOps master's programme, students attend in-depth courses, which are also available in other Master’s programmes such as Data Science M.Sc. and Software Engineering M.Sc., as well as study-programme-specific modules. In terms of content, the Master was designed in a way that students will
build their knowledge semester by semester, independently of semester intake. The modules are
therefore not dependent on each other, allowing students to start their studies also in the Summer
Semester. In the 4-semesters-programme, students can practically apply their knowledge in a Capstone Project. Otherwise, students choose a specialisation to be handled in their Master’s Thesis,
where they are required to work on a scientific issue.

Our study programme covers the ability to solve complex tasks by designing the software architecture, producing clean and well-documented code and following best practices from various domains. The DevOps Master’s programme is fully taught in English.

The following content will be covered during your studies:
