Open call – Magnum Photos workshop for UE students

UE is proud to announce its new partnership with Magnum Photos.

Application 

Interested students submit a portfolio and a letter of motivation. 20 students will be selected by a jury consisting of professors Nina Röder, Heike Ollertz and Michael Danner and assigned to Magnum photographers. 

Who is eligible to participate?

Current students and graduates of our BA and MA Photography programmes from Berlin and Hamburg. The 2-day workshop will take place on 1-2 September 2022 at our Berlin campus. As well as on 3 September for the Berlin Photo Week Festival, which features talks and book signings by Magnum photographers. The workshop and festival pass is free and the language of instruction is English. 

Open Call

Submit the following as one PDF document in the designated MS Teams folder „MAGNUM2022“ by 14 August 2022. Alumni without access to MS Teams send their application to nina.roeder@ue-germany.com 

  • 1 or 2 related photo series, each series max. 10 images with title and a short description 
  • A short motivation letter, max. 1,000 characters, explaining why you are interested in the workshops at MAGNUM and what you hope to gain from the experience 
  • First choice of Magnum photographer

YAEL ESTEBAN MARTÍNEZ VELÁZQUEZ (b. 1984) is a Mexican photographer, based in Guerrero. He is a freelance photographer that photographs for Magnum Photos. In 2019 he won the W. Eugene Smith Grant from the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund.

NANNA HEITMANN (b. 1994) is a German-Russian documentary photographer, currently living in Moscow. She joined Magnum Photos as a nominee in 2019.
