BiTS and BTK combine their expertise and become the University of Applied Sciences Europe

The private Universities of Applied Sciences BiTS and BTK at Iserlohn, Berlin, and Hamburg have joined together to combine more than 17 years of expertise in the areas of business, new media, and design. Through this special combination, the University of Applied Sciences Europe – supported by a worldwide university and partner network – offers exceptional programs progressively oriented towards the demands of the labor market 4.0. The university is part of the largest global education provider, Laureate International Universities. BiTS and BTK will continue to exist as faculties. The new brand profile will be introduced on all communication platforms from June 2017.

The University of Applied Sciences Europe is an interdisciplinary university combining the four disciplines of Business, Art & Design, New Media and Communication as well as International Service Industries/Sport Management under one roof. Through the special exchange between creativity, enterprise, digital thinking, and internationality, the school educates its students in practice-based programs with a focus on the needs of the global labor market of tomorrow. The interdisciplinary skills taught will be in high demand in the future job market.

The University of Applied Sciences Europe places particular emphasis on its international network. Students gain their own international experiences through global lectures, integrated internships and semesters abroad, as well as cross-border projects in cooperation with a large network of partner universities worldwide. Furthermore, they benefit from an interdisciplinary range of projects and programs and close cooperation between the school and leading partners in the business, media, and creative industries, which have shaped the development of innovative learning formats and forward-looking programs such as Digital Business & Data Science.

Additionally there is an emphasis on the development of individual character. Students are encouraged to realize their own projects in student initiatives or to engage in extracurricular activities. They will be awarded a special additional certificate to the degree listing their development in core skill, which were identified in a study conducted by Laureate with more than 5,000 partners and more than 20,000 students, lecturers, employees, and alumni globally. The certificate gives students and graduates an additional opportunity to stand out among other applicants in their job search.

“It is very important to us, to prepare students for their professional careers and to equip them with working skills that are appreciated by employers all over the world. We offer our students an interdisciplinary education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical challenges of everyday professional life and encourages intercultural exchange through cross-border projects”, says Dr. Haris Hassabis, CEO of Laureate Germany.

Prof. Stefan Stein, President of the university, also firmly believes in the potential of the collaboration between business, new media, and design. “New ideas arise from differences. Via the exchanges between the disciplines of Design Technology, applied Communication, and Business, in times of digital transformation we mutually enrich our programs and discover new perspectives in teaching and research, which are essential to many professions today.”
