If you have just graduated and are looking for a job, then you’re probably wondering what salary you can expect to earn when you start work.
In this article, you’ll find out about entry-level salaries in the fields of photography, communication design, and graphic design.
What influences your starting salary?
In addition to your degree and your practical experience, two other factors can influence your starting salary.
Firstly, the size of the company you are applying to plays a significant role. The bigger the organization and the more employees it has, the higher the salary you can expect to receive.
The second factor is the region you will be working in. There are still differences in pay between different regions of Germany, so the amount you earn will depend on where you work.
Graphic design and communication design: what to expect when you enter the world of work
As a communication designer, your tasks will be challenging. When you apply for a job, practical experience and samples of your work are particularly important.
As a newcomer, you can expect to receive between 1000 and 1500 euros (gross) per month. Some agencies pay slightly more than average while others pay a little less. At larger agencies, the chances of earning a decent starting salary are better: you can earn up to 2300 euros (gross).
These days, graphic designers are in greater demand than ever before. For this reason, many communication designers opt for a job in the graphics department.
The chances of finding a position there are higher because graphic designers are needed not only by agencies, but also by many large and small companies seeking graphic experts to join their marketing teams.
As a graphic designer, you can expect a starting salary of between 1500 and 2250 euros (gross). Your price will also be determined by your expertise and specialist knowledge. It is important to be well versed in current design trends and the latest software. With the right qualifications, you have the potential to earn a gross salary of around 3000 euros per month.
Earnings for photography newcomers
After you have completed your training as a photographer in a company or at a university, you can expect a starting salary of around 1500 euros (gross).
The more experience you have, the better your chances of advancing your career and increasing your salary. Once you have a few years of professional experience, you can expect to receive a gross salary of 2500 euros per month. If you are employed as a full-time photographer, you can earn up to 3500 euros (gross).
The situation is somewhat different for freelance photographers; you have to be prepared for a low income, especially at the beginning.
You initially have to build up your business and therefore have higher expenses. Once you’ve established yourself, it is up to you and your dedication as to how many assignments you take on to earn money.
